This client had been conducting a monthly live auto auction with an online simulcast that was broadcast from the auction trailer. Following the auction in March of 2020, the City declared that due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, there would be no more live auctions until further notice and they were to convert to online-only in time for the April sale.
With 30 days to complete the conversion, I worked with the client to determine and implement the necessary changes to the auction process. We made six major changes to the auction process over those four weeks. The local news ran a story about the impound lot and we saw a tremendous surge in registrations. I personally spoke with each of the 1000 bidders who registered at least once to walk them through the new online bidding process.
Our efforts were successful, and the company saw a 20% increase in gross sales in 2020 from this monthly auction contract. In 2021, gross sales increased by an additional 30%.Â
Note: due to major disruptions in the automotive market due to shutdown-related supply chain disruptions during this period, it's not possible to isolate our efforts from the overall market shifts. However, if we had not been succesful in converting the operation, we likely would have seen significantly less revenue increase.
